Straight Outta Compton Movie Review

Cast: O'Shea Jackson Jr as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Easy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown Jr as DJ Yella, Paul Giamatti as Jerry Heller. Directed by F. Gary Gray.

Straight Outta Compton is a biographical film directed by F. Gary Gray and it is about the rise and fall of Compton's hip hop group N.W.A. Now I have been waiting for this film for a long time and I got to say it was excellent. The movie focus on three main characters of N.W.A who are Ice Cube, Easy-E & Dr. Dre, and they are tired of living the life and they decide to start a rap group with their friends. We also get to see small cameo appearance from other artist such as Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Tupac, and Chuck D.

The direction that F. Gary Gray took was really good instead of filming it in another part of California, he decided to film it in Compton and I got to see how life is there. I was really in grossed in the lifestyle of Compton because it got me interested in how police were back in the late 80s, the gang life and showing the reality of how black people were treated by the police. A scene that got me interested but also angry at how police were back in the day was, when the group finished recording a track and decide to go outside and then a police car shows up and starts questioning them and starts searching them for any signs of drugs just because they are black. And it is within this incident that inspired Ice Cube to write their most controversial track.

Also, you will hear other tracks from Dr. Dre and Ice Cube's album made when they decided to part from N.W.A and that is 'Nothing But a G Thang' and a diss track towards N.W.A 'No Vaseline'.

To sum it up, Straight Outta Compton is an excellent film. I saw this with my friend and when the music was playing she was bopping her head along with the music. So if you are a fan of rap music and N.W.A, you will absolutely love this film. I'm buying this on blu-ray day one. Apparently, there's a potential sequel being developed and it might look at other rappers life in the music industry from the West Coast such as Tupac and Snoop Dogg. Here's hoping for a Tupac bio-film.

I'm going to give Straight Outta Compton an A. Leave me comment down below and tell me what was your favorite track from the album and did you enjoy the film, see you next time readers.
